Ohio is home to a variety of spider species but the most common include:

  • Ground Spiders
  • Jumping Spiders
  • Brown Recluse Spiders
  • Black Widow Spiders

Ground Spiders

Ground spiders are often black, brown or red. They are native to many states in the U.S. including Ohio. Wolf spiders fall into the species of ‘ground spiders’ and do not spin webs. You will notice these spiders on the ground, hence their name, and they go after their prey on the ground instead of using a web as a means to catch them. In addition to seeing them running across your yard or sidewalk you might also discover them in the basement, closet, houseplants, or sometimes under furniture. They aren’t poisonous but can bite and some people may experience allergic reactions.

Black Widows in Dayton Ohio

Our spider control experts are experienced with treating for poisonous spiders such as the black widow. Many people recognize a black widow due to their distinct color and red hourglass marking on their belly. Black widows can and will bite and their bite can cause moderate side effects; muscle cramps and spasms, swelling, and even infection. Medical attention needs to be sought right away if you get bitten by a black widow.

Brown Recluse Spiders in Dayton Ohio

Brown recluse spiders are know to be reclusive; hence their name. They are often discovered in spots they consider to be a ‘hiding’ spot including your shoes, clothing in the floor, closets or dark corners of a room. They only bite if threatened but we still recommend calling our spider control experts should you come in to contact with any spider; poisonous or harmless.
